Blas Maria Herrera and Maria Ruiz Herrera – Brief History

Blas Maria Herrera (1802-1878)

One of the significant native Texans involved in the Texas Revolution was Blas Maria Herrera, (1802-1878), son of Benito Herrera and Jacoba de las Fuentes. Unfortunately, the name of Blas Herrera is not commonly known and he has received minimal recognition for his contribution in the Texas War of Independence. He was a soldier, a scout and a courier, sometimes referred to as the “Paul Revere of the Texas Revolution.” Blas Maria Herrera was born and raised in Bexar County. He and his wife established their home at Paso de las Garzas, AKA “Garza’s Crossing” where Somerset Road meets the Medina River in southern Bexar County. Read more.
