Indian Depredations at the Davenport Homestead and Along the Cibolo Creek

In the early years of settlement along the Cibolo Creek in extreme Northeast Bexar County and close to the towns of what are now Bracken and Selma, William Davenport built his home and expanded his ranch to thousands of acres along what is now the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail (Nacogdoches Road) immediately across from the creek.  He was known as “Captain” Davenport and was looked to for protection from Indian raids in that area.  These raids were prominent in the early to mid-1850’s and had become a very real danger to those new families settling at the old Austin post road and the Cibolo Creek (present-day Selma).  Read More
