Maxcimo Cadena House and Family©
San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas

Older houses often provide valuable clues to the lifestyles of the families who made them their homes. Such is the case of the Maximo Cadena house in northwest San Antonio. The Cadena family was involved in the cargo freighting business in the mid to late 1800’s at a time when transporting goods by carts and wagons was the primary mode of moving goods from one location to another. When the railroad came to San Antonio, the cargo freighting business gradually died. As a result, the Cadena’s found it necessary to relocate, to sell their beautiful home and their lands and to engage in other meaningful occupations to support their large families. This article provides both a history of the family, and some of the descendants as well as descriptions of the two-story stone house that remains today.
