Stake House

Polley Stake House in 1847. This was the first place the Polley family lived upon arriving on the Cibolo River in 1847. Joseph Polley had previously lived in Brazoria County near present day Houston for almost 27 years (1820-1847), before moving to present day Wilson County. The other structures behind the stake house are slave cabins. The Polley's had about 20 slaves on their new plantation in Wilson County. This sketch was done by Joseph Polley Paine probably from a much older sketch done by the contractor who built the Polley Mansion circa 1850.
