Overview / Summary

Francois and Catarina Callaghan Guilbeau’s House and Associated Structures

The historic Francois and Catarina Callaghan Guilbeau farmhouse and associated structures (c1885) are in danger of being demolished.  The complex is located on the far northwest side of Bexar County, TX.  It is not visible from Loop 1604 or from Leslie Road due to heavy vegetation and overgrowth. On 11 October 2019, a demolition application was submitted by the owner through a legal representative to the City of San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation (OHP). The OHP initiated a study of the property and determined the property should be considered for a City Landmark designation. A hearing was scheduled but later postponed when the owner withdrew the demolition application to pursue other options.  The demolition request has now been re-initiated.   The owners are opposed to the historic designation and do not believe it is feasible to restore the structures.[i] [ii]
