DEATH OF Mr. Augustin Toutant Beauregard
Elsewhere in these columns has been mentioned the death of him whose name heads this article. The long residence in Texas of this deceased gentleman, his social position and influence, his wide acquaintances in this state and other states, and above all, the noble virtues which were illustrated by his life, demand more than a passing notice of his life, although that life was lived as a private citizen. Society has an interest in such a record, for it is the life and character of such a man that may be said to constitute the best fruit born by the Christian civilization of the nineteenth century.
